Pancake Day – day before lent begins

Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday is usually the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent (Ash Wednesday) and this year, it falls on February 13th, 2024. Lent is a 40 day period of abstinence for Christians, when they reflect on their religion and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. It lasts until Easter, when his resurrection is celebrated.

It is a tradition that has been practiced over many generations and in many countries today. On this Tuesday, many Christians did not only reflect but are believed to have indulged in binge-eating in readiness for the fasting period so they can use up food ingredients at home like the flour, milk and eggs.

Many countries have their versions of Pancake day and celebrate in many exciting ways. It is a day to celebrate this amazing, delicious and mouthwatering recipe that is fitting for breakfast or to break your fast. So Happy Pancake Day and feel free to try the many versions like serving it with either pancake syrup, jam, honey, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sausages, bacon or butter.
